Film Washi Y is a specialty ISO 100 panchromatic black & white film, hand-coated onto Japanese Kozo washi paper in France.
It was developed as an evolution of the original Washi paper film, combining the unmistakable texture of the Kozo paper base with a more conventional panchromatic response and greater exposure latitude.
The result is a film that is easier to work with while retaining the distinctive, tactile character that makes Film Washi so unusual.

Unlike the orthochromatic Washi W, Y is sensitive across the visible spectrum, making it suitable for a much wider range of subjects.
Its soft contrast and strong paper texture make it particularly interesting for landscapes, portraits and everyday photography where a conventional B&W negative simply feels too clean or predictable.
The Kozo paper base remains an important part of the image. Rather than trying to hide its character, Washi Y embraces it — giving photographs a handmade, almost pictorial quality.
A specialty film, not a standard film
Washi Y is hand-coated and individually spooled onto recycled 120 backing paper. Small variations are part of the nature of the product.
It can be exposed at its nominal ISO 100 and, according to Film Washi, can be pushed or pulled by up to two stops.
As with other paper-based Washi films, handling and processing require more care than conventional B&W film. Please check processing requirements with your lab before shooting.
